Applying to SUNY Oswego 
 

SUNY Oswego accepts either The Common Application, OR the SUNY Application (however, Educational Opportunity Program [E.O.P.] applicants are encouraged to use the SUNY Application).

  • Applicants are encouraged to apply online, the easiest and most secure format.
  • Paper applications are available at many schools and can also be requested from the Oswego Office of Admissions.

The Common Application Logo
The Common Application, which is accepted by over 400 colleges nationwide, allows you to apply to any participating school with one application.  It includes a personal essay and school supplement/ counselor evaluation form.

The online SUNY Application, which is accepted by most SUNY campuses, allows you to apply to several SUNY colleges with one application (a SUNY pdf version is also available). 

Please complete and submit either The Common Application or SUNY Application online (each requires a $40 fee):

FRESHMAN APPLICANTS

Freshman using The Common Application will also need to submit the following:

  • Official HS Transcript(s)
  • Official SAT (code 2543) or ACT (code 2942)
  • Official College, AP, IB or CLEP transcripts, if applicable
  • If filing using the paper application please print and mail the paper Supplement for The Common Application to SUNY Oswego.

Freshman using the SUNY application will also need to submit the following:

  • Official HS Transcript(s)
  • Oswego's Supplement to the SUNY application
    (online...completed online & submitted via email) or (printable... to be completed by hand and mailed)
  • Official SAT (code 2543) or ACT (code 2942)
  • Official College, AP, IB or CLEP transcripts, if applicable
  • One recommendation (or form allowing for individual comments) from a school-based counselor or teacher

        When to Apply
We strongly suggest that you submit your application between August 1 and January 15 for the fall semester, and before October 15 for the spring.  After these dates, all applications are considered on a space-available basis.  Applicants are encouraged to apply as early as possible in order to receive the fullest possible consideration.

        Early Decision
If you're already committed to SUNY Oswego as your first choice, get a head start with our Early Decision option.  By submitting your completed application marked for early decision by November 15, you'll receive a decision by December 15.  Plus, you'll receive full consideration for any and all scholarships.

TRANSFER APPLICANTS
Applicants who have registered for at least 12 credit hours at another college or university, following graduation from high school, are considered transfer students.

The priority date for consideration of transfer applications is March 1 for the fall semester and November 1 for the spring. Applications received after those dates will be considered as space remains available.

  • Apply for an available major. Transfer applicants applying "undecided" will be asked to complete a concentration sheet.
  • Submit an official transcript from each college or university previously attended (regardless if credit was actually awarded).
  • Students who have completed fewer than 30 credit hours at the time of their application must also submit an official high school transcript.
  • Students who have a gap in time during their education (such as time off between high school and college or from one semester to another) are required to complete the Supplemental Transfer Information Form.
  • Students applying using The Common Application "paper" version please also submit the paper supplement to The Common Application.
