The following is a list of software available to all SUNY Oswego faculty, staff and students. Please consult our licensed software page for a listing of additional software that CTS purchases and makes available to SUNY Oswego faculty, staff and/or students. If there is software that you need that the campus does not provide, check out UBMicros's online store for great pricing.
Adobe Reader Adobe Reader allows the opening and reading of PDF documents from the web.
Filezilla Filezilla is a FTP program for Windows. With it, users can easily transfer files to and from their SUNY Oswego account space.
Firefox Firefox is a compact web browser designed as a replacement for the Mozilla/Netscape browser. Note: Firefox does not include built-in email capabilities. Available in both Macintosh (OS X only) and Windows versions.
Fugu Fugu is a FTP program for MacOS X. With it, users can easily transfer files to and from their SUNY Oswego account space.
Malware Removers These are programs that are designed to remove malware/spyware from Windows PCs. All links below go direct to the vendor website; please refer to their documentation for assistance with using these utilities.
McAfee VirusScan McAfee VirusScan provides virus protection for Windows-based PCs. Note:This installer package is designed for use on student and home machines only.It is recommended that you uninstall any existing anti-virus software from your PC before running this installer package.
Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0 Internet Explorer is a web browser that is bundled with current versions of Windows. The link below will take you to Microsoft's website.
Microsoft Office 2007/2008 Compatibility Packs Office 2007 Compatibility Pack allows owners of previous Office releases for the PC (2000/XP/2003) to work with files written using the new Office 2007 file format. The Office 2007/2008 XML Converter allows owners of previous Office releases for the Mac (2004) to work with files written using the new Office 2007 and 2008 file formats.
Powerpoint Viewer PowerPoint Viewer lets you view full-featured presentations created in PowerPoint 97 and later versions.
Printing - Wireless and Computer Lab Pharos Uniprint is a software package which allows SUNY Oswego employees and students to print to CTS public labs from anywhere on-campus, including our wireless network.
Putty Putty allows safe, encrypted Secure Shell (SSH) connections to remote servers. Use them to obtain a command-line (Unix) interface to Rocky.
NOTE: Mac OS X (10.x) includes a built-in SSH client via the Terminal application, which is located inside the Utilities folder. You can connect to Rocky by typing the command ssh -l username rocky.oswego.edu into the Terminal window (where "username" = your SUNY Oswego email account username).
Quickzip Quickzip is a file decompression utility for Windows .zip files.
Stuffit Expander Stuffit Expander is a file decompression utility for Macintosh .sit, .bin and .hqx files.
Thunderbird Thunderbird is a compact mail client designed as a replacement for the Mozilla/Netscape mail client. Note: Thunderbird does not include built-in web-browsing capabilities.
VPN Client Cisco VPN client software is required to access non-public computer resources at SUNY Oswego and for using SUNY Oswego’s wireless network on campus.
Version 4.9 for Mac OS X is now Leopard-compatible.
